MIHO or Sagawa Art Museum / Tofukuji / Kyoto city walk
Visit either the world-class architecture of MIHO Museum or the lakeside Sagawa Art Museum, then enjoy the maples from Tofukuji's Tsuten Bridge. Evening free time for a Kawaramachi city walk.
MIHO Museum — among the world's great buildings
Set in a forest nature preserve in Shigaraki, Shiga. Designed by I. M. Pei and inspired by the Peach Blossom Spring, modern architecture merges with nature; glass roofs flood the interiors with light, and the surrounding mountains open the space further.

Sagawa Art Museum
A "museum on water" tucked along Lake Biwa's shore. Clean lines and a muted gray palette borrow the lake view; light shifts across the rippling surface with a quiet, contemplative mood.

Tofukuji — maples of Tsuten Bridge
One of Kyoto's five great Zen temples. The Hojo's eight garden compositions are icons of modern Zen landscape design. In autumn, Tsuten Bridge overlooks a vast sea of maples — crimson shot through with gold, a must-see for Kyoto foliage.

Kyoto Kawaramachi city walk

Day 3

Arashiyama / Kachofugetsu Kyoto garden / Miyama thatched village
Walk Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama, visit the secluded Kachofugetsu garden, then continue into Miyama's thatched-roof village.

The symbol of Arashiyama. The timber deck has an old-world charm that blends with the landscape; walking the bridge keeps the riverside scenery constantly in view.

Kachofugetsu — secluded Kyoto garden
Cedar, artful stone, maple, and plum groves each stand alone yet blend together. An elegant teahouse sits in the expansive garden; ingredients honor natural flavors as the seasons quietly turn.

Miyama — thatched-village landscape
Kyoto's thatched-roof village. Along the Yura River, about 50 households and 38 traditional kayabuki buildings are preserved in calm quiet. Spring cherry blossoms, summer paddies, autumn ears of grain, and winter snow all feel quietly poetic.

Ine Funaya (boat cruise) / Amanohashidate (Chion-ji – revolving bridge – cable car)
Cruise past Ine Bay's funaya boat houses, then explore Amanohashidate's pine-lined sandbar and revolving bridge, and ride the cable car for the classic flying-dragon view.

Ine Funaya — Michelin-listed scenic gem
About 230 funaya boat houses line Ine Bay for roughly 5 km, with mountains behind and the sea in front — road on one side, moored boats on the other — steeped in Edo-period nostalgia and fishing culture.

Ine Bay sightseeing boat

Amanohashidate — one of Japan's Three Views & Three Great Pine Groves
A 3.6 km sandbar of white sand and green pines, with about 8,000 black pines lining the path — like a dragon riding the clouds. The emblem of the "Sea of Kyoto."

Amanohashidate cable car — flying-dragon view
Ride the cable car for sweeping scenery and the famous flying-dragon view. Looking back between your legs, the sandbar appears as a bridge spanning heaven and earth.

Revolving bridge (Kotenkyo)
A mechanical swing bridge over the artificial channel at the south end of Amanohashidate. It rotates 90° horizontally to let ships into Miyazu Bay — a distinctive piece of waterside engineering.
