Jozankei Onsen
Called Sapporo's backyard garden, springs rise from the Toyohira riverbed; more than half of the 56 sources sit in the onsen town. Free hand and foot baths abound. Kappa legends live on in statues — perfect for a yukata stroll.

Hokkaido Jingu / Shiroi Koibito Park / Hill of the Buddha / Otaru
Visit Hokkaido Jingu, Shiroi Koibito Park, and Tadao Ando's Hill of the Buddha. Enjoy crab kaiseki lunch, then continue to Otaru.

Hokkaido Jingu
Founded in 1869 to enshrine the deities protecting Hokkaido's pioneering. Renamed Hokkaido Jingu in 1964 and set on Maruyama, it is truly Hokkaido's guardian shrine.

Shiroi Koibito Park
Ishiya Confectionery is famous for Shiroi Koibito white chocolate cookies made with local dairy. Tour factory floors to see chocolate production and historical collections.

Hill of the Buddha (Makomanai Takino Cemetery)
A signature Tadao Ando work. A 13.5 m Buddha is set into a conical hill so only the head shows, ringed by some 150,000 lavender plants — spring green, summer purple, winter white — symbolizing the cycle of life.

Day 3

Shakotan Peninsula — Cape Kamui stroll / Otaru Canal
View Shakotan Blue from Cape Kamui, taste seasonal uni, boat into the Blue Cave, then evening stroll the romantic Otaru Canal.
Cape Kamui
A headland on the northwest Shakotan Peninsula thrusting into the Sea of Japan — sacred ground for the Ainu. Walk the trail to the tip for endless "Shakotan Blue" sea; women were once barred from the steep path.

Shakotan uni seafood — seasonal limited
Summer is prime uni harvest season. From June through August, taste sea urchin caught by local fishermen.

Blue Cave — luminous blue-sea adventure
Boat into the mysterious Blue Cave, where sunlight refracted through seawater turns the rock chamber fluorescent blue-green — another world. Feed seagulls from the boat as flocks chase the wake.

Romantic Otaru Canal
The place name comes from Ainu for "river in the sandy shore." Japan's only reclaimed-land canal, built from 1914 over nine years and 1,140 m long. Warehouses remade as glass-craft shops, tea houses, and restaurants make it a famed sightseeing destination.

Day 4

Shinsen-numa / Niseko gondola or Mt. Yotei Meisui Park / Lake Toya
Boardwalk through virgin forest at Shinsen-numa, HANAZONO summer gondola or Mt. Yotei Meisui Park, overnight at Lake Toya or Noboribetsu Onsen.
Mysterious Shinsen-numa
The most beautiful marshland in the Niseko area, ringed by virgin forest. A 15–20 minute boardwalk walk leads to deep indigo water reflecting mountain mist and trees, alpine plants all around — pure quiet.

HANAZONO summer gondola
In summer the Symphony gondola is relocated near HANAZONO Lift 1. About six minutes one way, climbing from 308 m to 658 m elevation. Panoramic windows frame mountain ranges and Mt. Yotei, one of Japan's 100 famous peaks.

Mt. Yotei Meisui Park
Rain and snowmelt from Mt. Yotei filter through the ground into sweet spring water that wells up naturally — listed among Japan's 100 Famous Waters.

Lake Toya scenery
Within Shikotsu-Toya National Park, a caldera lake about 36.5 km around and Japan's first UNESCO Global Geopark. On clear days see Mt. Yotei, Mt. Usu, and Showa-Shinzan; the mirror lake reflects the sky.

From the Ainu word meaning "singing together." The grounds hold the National Ainu Museum and National Park for Ethnic Harmony. Learn Ainu culture through dance and hands-on experiences by Lake Poroto.

Noboribetsu Hell Valley
A fantastical valley formed by lava after a volcanic eruption. Countless fumaroles vent natural gas and hot water — Noboribetsu's largest spring source, with up to 11 water types. About 600 m of walking trails allow close viewing.

Tanukikoji shopping street
A Sapporo must-visit with over 120 years of history. From the Meiji era, merchants filled blocks 1 through 7 — more than 200 shops including drugstores, izakaya, and craft stores.
